Guisborough beaten 3-2 in their Teesside derby match at Stockton Town.
After a keenly-fought goal-less first half in which full back Guisborough Dylan McAvoy and Stockton defender and skipper Tom Coulthard went close to scoring for their sides, it was the Priorymen who broke the deadlock midway through the second half when midfielder Lewis Maloney put over a great cross which was met superbly by Ben Hugill who scored at the far post.
But Stockton hit back strongly and within a minute were level 1-1 and they took a 2-1 lead and all three points with a second goal in the 80th minute. It was a full-blooded end-to-end Teesside derby and Guisborough could count themselves unfortunate not to get a point for all their efforts.
The defeat wasn't without other costs either because Town defender Lee Bythway suffered a bad knee injury and will miss this coming Saturday's home league game against Newcastle Benfield at the KGV (KO 3pm) and midfielder/defender Mark Robinson is also doubtful after sustaining a hamstring injury. Also, star winger Steve Roberts could be sidelined for several weeks with a leg injury.
Meanwhile, there is better news about right back Bradley Mills who has been out long-term following a blood clot problem to his arm. Guisborough Manager Gary Forster commented: "Things are progressing really well for Brad and if he keeps going the way he is currently then he could be available for selection again around the back-end of January.
