Massive £5,000 boost to ‘Fund the Fence’ by Coaches charity match

Guisborough Town’s ‘Fund the Fence’ appeal was given a fantastic £5,000 boost after a hugely successful fundraising match between the various club coaches (and a few surprise appearances!) at the KGV Stadium on Saturday.

Pictured above are all the participants who played in the fund-raising ‘Coaches v Coaches’ game at the KGV on Saturday.

This latest contribution to the appeal means the overall grand total now stands at a magnificent £27,000 out of the £40,000 target needed to cover the cost of everything for the Fence and Pitches project.

The ‘Coaches v Coaches’ event attracted a large crowd, including families and supporters alike, and the special match between two sides made up mainly of coaches and officials at Guisborough Town produced a highly entertaining game.

The two sides were managed for the day by Laura Whittaker and Club Chairman Andy Willis.

Andy’s side built up a good 3-1 lead by half-time with two goals from Tom Jeffels and a third from former Boro star and now Guisborough’s Head of Development Craig Hignett. In between Matty Green pulled one back from the penalty spot.

In the second half, however, Laura’s coaching team rallied strongly to finish up 5-3 winners…but the real winners on the day were everyone involved in a great spectacle and of course Guisborough’s ‘Fund the Fence’ appeal.

Guisborough Town’s Assistant First Team Manager Paul Crager, who played in the event, summed up and mood and feeling of everyone involved when he tweeted: “Fantastic day at Guisborough Town today – brilliant work from everyone involved – and great to have the support from everybody. Thanks to you all.”

Meanwhile, an absolutely wonderful aspect of the Coaches match day was provided by two young GTFC superstars, Heidi Edwards and Willow Playforth (pictured right).

They set a fine example to young and old alike when they went round the ground litter picking during the Coaches charity game.

Well done girls!
