Reserves Progress in Macmillan Bowl

Despite a slow start, Guisborough still managed to create some half chances in the early stages, but it wasn’t until the final ten minutes of the half that they took control of the game and started to apply some heavy pressure on the visitors.

The opening goal finally came two minutes before the half time whistle when a corner was whipped to the back post where Harry Patterson netted.

The second half saw another slow start and an extremely soft penalty was awarded in the 49th minute that was slotted straight down the middle to bring Richmond back level at 1-1.

A flurry of substitutes saw Guisborough get back on top with Brandon Loughran converting twice in quick succession. His second was particularly impressive beating two men on the edge of the box, slaloming through and slotting home for 3-1.

Richmond continued to test the Guisborough defensive line with long diagonals and six minutes from time they were awarded an even softer penalty kick which Jeff Watson kept out with a great stop low to his left.

From the resulting corner, a double flick on the ball ended in the far corner of the goal to make it 3-2, setting it up for a nervy last few minutes.

Guisborough continued to hit Richmond on the break and 95 minutes in, Alfie Edwards netted Guisborough’s fourth to seal the win!

The Man-of-the-Match award went to Brandon Loughran, started in the 6, before moving to centre forward for the final half an hour and he took the game by the scruff of the neck. Two goals in a few minutes taking the game away from Richmond and also coaching the younger lads through the last few moments! Well played Bran.
