Match Report

Unbeaten Wigginton continue their run at the expense of the Ladies

Guisborough welcomed unbeaten Wigginton Grasshoppers Women to the KGV on Sunday.

The Ladies started the game well, playing some good football but the visitors defended well to limit Guisborough’s chances until it opened up for Scarlett Hames (sponsored by Croft Rigging & Lifting Ltd) to fire one just over.

Wigginton looked dangerous on the counter attack but Guisborough’s defence stood firm despite having players out of position due to injuries.

Guisborough thought they had broke the deadlock late on in the half when Ebony McDermottroe (sponsored by Cleveland Plastering Services) had the ball in the back of the net after a flick on from Hames, but she was deemed to have been in an offside position.

Half Time: Guisborough Town Ladies 0-0 Wigginton Grasshoppers Women

The second half saw Wigginton get into the game and start causing Guisborough more problems. With the game stretched, Wigginton were having more joy but Maddie McCormick pulled off some great saves to keep the game even.

It wasn’t until the 72nd minute which saw Wigginton take the lead after a good move.

Guisborough had a couple of half chances to equalise with shots from the edge of the area but couldn’t make them pay.
