Guisborough had to settle for a point against Redcar Town Ladies Reserves after a goalless draw this afternoon.
Redcar had the wind advantage in the first half, if there was an advantage, as it was that strong and gusty it was difficult to pass the ball or shoot accurately. Both teams performed well considering the conditions but hardly any opportunities were created in the first half. Just before the break, Rebecca Andrew had the best chance at goal however the shot sailed over the crossbar.
Half time score, 0-0.
Guisborough enjoyed more of the possession in the second half as they pushed for a goal, but Redcar’s defence smothered out almost all the opportunities the visitors could create. Mary Barnard came closest to scoring with a deflected shot that the Redcar keeper superbly saved to keep out. The home team came close too, but defender Alex Barry managed to clear the ball for a corner just in time.
Full time score, 0-0.
Guisborough will feel disappointed with the result today, knowing the pressure of this tight league does not allow for points to be dropped. With both teams doing so well against the brutal conditions it would have been cruel for either side to have scored at 90 minutes and take all three points and each team deserved their point. Player of the Match this week was awarded to captain Jess Simon who lead valiantly from the back, showed strength and composure to prevent Redcar’s strong and pacey strikers from scoring. Well done Jess!
