Match Report

Guisborough are disappointingly out of the FA Women’s Cup after losing 7-1 to a strong Blyth Ladies team.

The game was tough from the starting whistle but Guisborough pushed on and were awarded with the first goal of the afternoon. A positive run from Captain Jess Simon found Mary Barnard on the right wing, with the keeper off her line, Mary took a shot/cross and returning player Ellie Todd was there to help it over the line. Blyth replied by scoring two goals in the remainder of the half to put the home team ahead.

Half-time score 2-1.

The second half was again tough for the back line and Blyth managed to score 3 good goals quickly to put the lead out of reach for Guisborough. Some fresh legs from substitutes Charlotte Walker, Olivia Jeal and Anna Christer brough some positive energy to the squad but clever passing and movement by the Blyth team took its toll on the tiring Guisborough defence and the home team scored again. In the last minutes of the game Rebecca Andrew’s well-meant clearance hit Guisborough’s keeper Gemma ‘Lefty’ Pollock on the way out and unfortunately gifted Blyth another goal.

Full time score 7-1.

The ladies will use the opportunity in the FA Cup to learn and develop but have now got the league to concentrate on, starting away with local rivals Redcar Athletic Ladies next Sunday. Please come along and support the ladies while you still can!
