Guisborough were victorious in their first home game of the season against Richmond Town Ladies, smashing them 8 nil.
The first half started equally for both teams and chances were created at both ends however Guisborough took control of the game and the home defence, led by Captain Jess Simon, snuffed out any attempt on goal. Guisborough started to dominate in midfield and when Emma Walton battled for the ball on the right, she ran to the by-line and crossed the ball into the box. Guisborough player Louise Skiba headed the ball into the empty net from 2 yards out for the first goal of the afternoon. Not long after, Rebecca Becca Andrew slid the ball between Richmond’s defence and Louise got on the end of it again, slotting it passed the keeper to double the lead.
Half time score, 2-0.
The second half started well for Guisborough as they dominated possession and created lots of opportunities which resulted in a flurry of goals from many players. A throw in from the left met the head of Louise Skiba who flicked it behind her, some miskicks from Richmond’s defence and keeper gifted Rebecca Andrew a chance on goal which she gladly took. The fourth goal was awarded to Emma when she again battled down that right-wing, she beat the defender and the keeper with a sliding cross/strike. Either way it rolled over the line at the near post to give the home team a comfortable lead. Guisborough were gifted another goal when an attack by Louise Skiba did not quite work out, but the defender’s clearance hit the goalkeeper and it trickled over the line, not pretty but we’ll take them. The second of the afternoon for Rebecca came from a free kick, just outside the box. A well taken strike beat the away keeper when the ball was fired into the top of the net. A Guisborough corner saw Rachel Rachel Anne Dimmick have an attempt on goal, it was high and well wide however, Emma Walton kept it in with a header and Ellie Todd was there to smash it in at the near post. The final goal of the match again came from a corner, Mary Barnard whipped the ball in, and Rachel Dimmick used her head to finish off a great game for the home side.
Final score, 8-0.
Great performances from all over the pitch today. Congratulations to the defence for their first clean sheet of the season. The attacking players of the squad got a well-deserved boost in their confidence with the breadth of different goal scorers in the squad, which will help the team out in the tougher games. Player of the Match was awarded to Charlotte Walker who is new to the squad this season but impressed the manager, Paul Hoskin, with her work rate, communication and determination to win the ball in a difficult position. Well done Charlotte! Next week the fixture is reversed and the ladies travel to Richmond where they hope to bring home all three points again.
