Guisborough Town Ladies hosted a strong York City Ladies Development in the County Cup on Sunday.

It wasn’t the start Guisborough were hoping for when within the first few minutes a long ball over the top caught Guisborough out. The goal keeper hesitated which allowed the York forward to get to the ball first and tap it into the empty net. 1-0 York. Guisborough didn’t let this effect them and gave a very good account of themselves for the rest of the first half, creating a few good chances. The best one being a Scarlett Hames header from a corner going just wide of the post.

The second half started by seeing York have plenty of the ball and creating some good chances. A ball into the box and a miss cue clearance going straight to the York striker for another easy finish gave York a 2-0 lead. York kept pressing and had a few more chances to score but Olivia Saville stood firm making some great saves. Guisborough matched their higher league opposition York for long periods of the game but just couldn’t keep the ball well enough.
