Stockton Town 3-0 Guisborough Town
A severely-depleted Guisborough Town side lost 3-0 at their Teesside neighbours Stockton Town on Saturday.
Guisborough Manager Steve Bell – back in harness following a recent bout of Covid – had to put out a makeshift team due to a combination of injuries, self-isolations and player unavailability.
Despite the 3-0 reverse, Steve was pleased to have at least been able to get minutes under his players’ belts. After the game he commented.
This match almost felt like it was our first game of the season due to recent cancellations for a variety of reasons. It was important to get some vital minutes into the players. We were always going to be up against it with or without a full squad against a strong Stockton side. It gave us a good opportunity to take a look at a few trialists and Under-23 players and they all impressed in the game. We clearly still have lots to do before the season kicks off proper at the end of July but we can take some definite positives from the matches we have played so far.
The first goal from Stockton came from Jamie Owens midway through the first half from a cross by former Guisborough favourite Mikey Roberts.
Then midway through the second half Gary Mitchell made it 2-0 and another former Guisborough player, Nathan Mulligan, got the third and final goal in the 88th minute.
