Match Report

A hard fought victory for the reserves!!

A very level first half saw both teams creating chances, with both goalkeepers forced making several fantastic saves, but it was Boro Rangers U21’s that took the lead after 34 minutes with a long ball into the channel bringing a good initial save but the follow-up was slotted home by Dylan Marsey.

Guisborough responded quickly and were back on level terms just five minutes later, equalising through a lovely lofted finish from Ben Andrews after 39 mins.

Half Time: Boro Rangers U21 1-1 Guisborough Town Reserves

Guisborough were forced into making several substitutions due to injury, but fought hard and got their noses in front after 75 mins when Noah Buck kept his composure and slotted home from close range.

As when the home side went ahead in the first half, the lead didn’t last long as Boro Rangers came back quickly and were awarded a penalty after 78 mins, which the Guisborough ‘keeper was very unfortunate not to keep out!

With 8 minutes to play a young Sam Matthews entered the field. A cross into the box from the left side held up well by Alfie Edwards and dropped off into the path of Mattews on the edge of the box to rocket it into the top corner and seal the three points for Guisborough Town.

In the few minutes he had he made a huge positive impact, and won the game through an unbelievable strike and truly deserves his MOTM today!

The win sees the Reserves move up five places in the North Riding Football League Men’s Premier Division to fifth.
