Match Report

Guisborough Town Ladies defeat Old Malton St. Mary’s in the County Cup on Sunday.

Guisborough made a slow start and a youthful Malton team started the better, putting lots of pressure on the home team. Despite this, after a couple of half chances, it was Guisborough who took the advantage on 17 minutes when good link up play in midfield with Anna Trainor finding Rebecca Andrew in between the lines to thread a through ball to Scarlett Hames who slotted it home to make it 1-0.

It didn’t take long before Guisborough had a second when Andrew picked up the ball in midfield and beat 3 players before setting Hames free down the left to fire a low cross into the box for Gracie McLoughlin to finish.

But, a minutes later, Old Malton had a goal of their own to make it 2-1.

Guisborough kept pressing forward looking for a way to restore the two goal cussion and eventually did just that when a deep sweeping cross from Rachel Dimmick found new signing Meghan Pearce to beat the keeper and place it into the empty net.

Just before half time, an under hit pass back let in the Old Malton forward through 1-on-1 to beat the keeper and slide in their second.

Half Time: Guisborough Town Ladies 3-2 Old Malton St. Mary’s Ladies

Old Malton came out in the second half the better team and were putting plenty of pressure on the Guisborough back line until eventually they had the equaliser just after the hour mark.

After this, Guisborough had the better of the chances to go and win the game but couldn’t convert and with it looking like the game was heading to penalties, McLoughlin found an on rushing Andrew to show a touch of class and stroke it into the bottom corner to snatch the win in the 90th minute.
