Floodlight failure spoils Guisborough’s victory bid

(Match abandoned after Half-Time due to floodlight failure)

Guisborough Town put on a superb first half performance against Ashington at the Kevin Edward KGV Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Priorymen scored two excellent goals through Joe Ferguson (29 mins) and Toluwani Osiyemi (32 mins) to go in at half-time deservedly 2-0 up.

But disaster struck within minutes of the restart when the Club-side of the pitch was plunged into significant darkness when the floodlights above the half-way line failed

Attempts were made to repair that floodlight but were unsuccessful and intermittently all the lights were switched off and back on to try and correct the problem.

After the game was called off, Guisborough Town issued the following statement:

“Following tonight’s abandonment, we want to apologise for the inconvenience to all fans, players and officials. However, what happened was unfortunately beyond our control.

“The Club will now ensure relevant repairs are carried out, and once a rescheduled date for the match is confirmed, there will be no charge for supporters to that match.

“The Club will, however, accept voluntary donations towards the ground works at the KGV Stadium which are required for our new Step 4 status.”
