Match Report
Needing to win every game until the end of the season to stand any chance of making the play-offs, Guisborough Town achieved exactly what was needed with a convincing 4-0 win over lowly Tow Law Town at the KGV on Wednesday.
The Priorymen excelled in a one-sided first half during which they scored all four of their goals within the first half-hour.
The lads went into cruise control for the second half having done more than enough to clinch all three points in a completely dominant first half. Overall, this was a good 4-0 win. The lads were excellent in the first half when all four of our goals were scored.
We were in cruise control in the second half though and lacked real intensity to add further to the 4-0 score. But before the game we would have taken a 4-0 score and so we move on to our next game against Crook Town this coming Saturday.
Guisborough’s Manager Steve Bell
It took the Priorymen just five minutes into the game to storm into a 1-0 lead with a lovely move as Matty Tymon put Joe Pickett through beautifully on the right and he put over a perfect pass into the middle for Kurt Howes to beat Lawyers ‘keeper James Barron with a delightfully deft touch.
Then Guisborough doubled their lead in the 13th minute when James Boucher laid the ball off to Jordan Fielding who squeezed the ball home into the corner for 2-0.
The pick of the night’s goals for Guisborough came into the 23rd minute with young James Boucher scoring his maiden first goal for the Priorymen – and what a magnificent one it was! Howes and Tymon combined well down the right and the ball came back to Boucher who scored with a fierce shot on the volley for 3-0.
Guisborough’s fast-maturing youngster James Boucher, who scored his first goal for the club against Tow Law Town – and what a cracker it was!
Guisborough’s fourth goal came from the penalty spot in the 31st minute when Howes was brought down and Tymon almost impudently put the spot kick away drilling the ball into the right hand corner of the net after taking literally one step back before shooting with deadly effect.
The second half was almost as forgettable as the first half was memorable as the Priorymen played a containing game to keep a clean sheet – although Tow Law almost scored with seven minutes to go when Jeremie Anderson-DeCosta outstripped the Guisborough defence but saw his shot brilliantly tipped round the post by Robert Dean – the first real save he had to make all night!
Although Guisborough’s hopes of reaching the end of season play-offs remain slim, they did their hopes no harm at all and a glance at the current league table shows their best chance of sneaking into the top five is to overhaul West Auckland Town.
