Match Report

Guisborough travelled to 2nd in the league Linthorpe Academicals for a top of the table clash.

Guisborough, in their new look formation, started the game quickly with all of the ball being played in the Linthorpe half. Some lovely link up play between Paige Davis (sponsored by Lk sports) and Mac (sponsored by Cleveland Plastering Services) created a number of chances with Linthorpe’s keeper keeping them in it with some great saves. Guisborough finally broke the resolute Linthorpe defence with a great run down the right from Mac who’s shot hit the post, rebounding for Rebecca Andrew (sponsored by Mark Talbot Plastering and Tiling) to tap home.

The second half was more of the same dominance of the ball from the away side. Guisborough had a number of corners throughout the game, with both Maddie McCormick (sponsored by C&S DJ Karaoke Events Hire) and Alex Barry coming close with headers just past the post. More good goalkeeping kept one on one efforts from Rebecca and Mac out. In the last minutes of the game, Linthorpe were pushing up the pitch and with their only chance of the game scored a long range shot to get an equaliser. Guisborough, although feeling hard done by, remain unbeaten and 7 points clear at the top of the league.

Player of the match: Rebecca Andrew
Away player of the match: Emma Walton
