Match Report

Guisborough Town continued their pre-season build-up with a thoroughly convincing 6-0 victory at Northern League Second Division neighbours Redcar Town on Tuesday night.

The Priorymen were 3-0 up at half-time after weathering early Redcar pressure and they never looked back as they continued their dominance in the second half to rattle in another three goals to make it 6-0 on the night.

“Our objective last night against Redcar Town shifted from what we’d done in the previous games which was building from the back and breaking lines from defence into midfield.

“Last night was all about concentrating on the final third, creating chances and being clinical and aggressive and that’s what the players were going to be measured on in this game.

“It was a slightly different objective and I’m really pleased to say the lads passed with flying colours. We scored six goals and could have had more.

“Redcar started off very brightly with loads of energy as they’ve done in all their previous games but goals change matches and once we started scoring we knocked the wind out of their sails really.

“From the mid-point in the first half we dominated the game. Once again, I’m delighted that everyone has had a run-out tonight and I’m particularly pleased because Redcar Town presented us with a stern test and the boys passed with flying colours.

Guisborough Manager Nathan Haslam – delighted so far with how pre-season build-up is going. “Our focus now is on the Whitby game on Saturday and then our first league game of the season at Easington on 26 July,”

“Now we turn our attention to Whitby this coming Saturday and we’ll continue with similar objectives, the first being that we come out of the game injury free.

“Josh Macdonald was taken off quite early in the game as a precaution because I don’t want to take any risks with our players.

“So, on to Whitby Town and we want to try and step up another level against a team who are two leagues higher than us.

“On paper, they’ve got stronger players than us as a collective – but it’s another pre-season game and for us it’s about working on certain things and getting out of the game what we want to achieve in readiness for our opening league match at Easington on 26 July.
