A new-look Guisborough Town got their pre-season programme off to a flying start at Thornaby on Tuesday night with a convincing 3-1 victory to retain the annual Peter Morris Memorial Trophy.
It was an impressive display by the Priorymen and there were positives all over the field for Manager Gary Forster and his new right hand man, Assistant Manager Dave Onions.
In a first half played at break-neck speed, Guisborough had the upper hand for the most part and deservedly went 1-0 up on 34 minutes with a superb strike from 20 yards by Danny Earl, the ball arcing beautifully into the top left hand corner.

After the interval Guisborough moved up several gears and two excellent strikes from Stevie Roberts in the 63rd and 65th minutes confirmed the Priorymen’s superiority over their newly-promoted Teesside neighbours Thornaby, who scored a consolation goal seven minutes from time.
After the game Guisborough boss Gary Forster commented: “This was a good early-season run-out for us. In a frantic tempo in the first half, I was really pleased with the commitment shown by our players, with their non-stop running and great endeavour all over the pitch.
“It was really nice to get the right result in the end but the most important thing was to see the majority of the squad starting to gel together well and get much-needed match time under their belts,” added Gary.
