Match Report
After Guisborough’s mid-week game against Athletic was cancelled they were on the road today, travelling to Brompton on a lovely bright day, beating them comfortably.
The first half started well for Guisborough and they were ahead within the first 5 minutes with a Brompton own goal after the defender attempted to clear Olivia Jeal’s cross. A well worked team goal doubled the lead when Ellie Todd tapped in Olivia Jeal’s cross from 5 yards out. Another 20 minutes went by before goal number three, this time it was Emma Walton making a great run towards goal after Charlotte Walker found a gap in the defence. Brompton got their only goal of the afternoon from a well taken free-kick wide of the 18 yard box, the ball sailing beyond Guisborough keeper Sophie Mansfield’s hands and into the net. When a long pass from Grace Manders dragged the away keeper off her line, Olivia Jeal beat her for pace and lobbed the stranded keeper, dropping the ball into the goal.
Half time: 1-4
Guisborough pushed on in the second half and when Brompton failed to clear their box, Ellie Todd provided Charlotte Walker with a goal scoring opportunity which she took to get her first for the game. At 70 minutes Guisborough were awarded a corner which Rebecca Andrew took, finding Olivia Jeal who battled to keep the ball and managed to get a shot away, beating the keeper at her near post. Emma Walton got her brace, outdoing the defenders for pace and eventually the keeper with a low shot, Charlotte Walker assisting. Charlotte Walker also got her brace not long after, shooting quickly under pressure and poking the ball home, Rebecca Andrew assisting. The last goal for Guisborough was scored by sub Louise Skiba after the keeper spilled a shot across the goal allowing for an easy tap in 2 yards out.
Full Time: 1-9
Fantastic performance on a very warm day by all players on the pitch, especially Guisborough’s attacking players who bagged lots of well needed goals. Player of the Match was awarded to Charlotte Walker for her positivity and work ethic in the centre of the pitch today, as well as getting two well earned goals and assisting two others.
Next match for Guisborough is home to local team Redcar Town Ladies Reserves on Wednesday night, 6pm K.O. at the King George Stadium. The reverse fixture was a 0-0 draw right before lock-down so Guisborough are expecting a tough game.
