Match Report

Just one week after excelling themselves in a 1-1 draw at league leaders Shildon, Guisborough Town inexplicably slumped to a 0-1 home defeat against Crook Town at the KGV Stadium on Saturday.

This disappointing performance was an unexpected shock after the Priorymen’s heroics the week before at Shildon as Crook brought Guisborough firmly back down to earth.

The only goal of the game came in the 37th minute when Guisborough failed to deal with a cross-cum-shot to the far right hand post and as the ball came to rest virtually on the goal-line, in nipped Crook forward Craig Moody to squeeze the ball home.

It was an uninspiring first half from Guisborough who looked out of sorts and disjointed from the off and it didn’t get much better in the second half as the Priorymen struggled to make any meaningful impression.

After the game Guisborough Manager Steve Bell said wryly:  “The lads must have fancied a day off today after last week’s superb display at Shildon.

“This was just not good enough all round today and we lost to a team which had more fire in their bellies.

And he warned: “This is not something that sits well with either myself or my Assistant Manager Paul Crager and some big decisions will need to be made this coming week.

As a result of this victory, Crook leapfrogged Guisborough in the league table to climb to 11thplace with the Priorymen dropping to 12th, their lowest position for several weeks.

A minute’s silence before the start of the game was impeccably observed by everyone in a good crowd of 256.

Guisborough’s next game is this coming Saturday, 18 November at Heaton Stannington on Tyneside.
