Match Report

Guisborough Town produced another scintillating performance at Easington Colliery on Saturday to extend their current impressive unbeaten run to four games during which they have scored 10 goals and conceded only three.

Once again the Priorymen were well under strength due to injuries and other absences, but the mainly young players who came into the team did themselves and Guisborough proud.

And none more so than rookie stand-in left back Robbie Cuthbert, who produced a Man of the Match performance, capping it with a brilliant headed goal midway through the second half to put the Priorymen into an unassailable 3-0 pole position.

Overall, though, it was a complete team performance in which literally every single Guisborough player produced superb displays.

BELL BRIMMING WITH PRIDE!

Guisborough Manager Steve Bell was brimming with pride and praise for his side after the game.

Brilliant performances today from all the boys.  Easington has been a really tough place for teams to go to this season and we went there with a team full of enforced changes and sorted it out superbly.

We had to bring in the likes of ‘keeper Jaan Yacub, defenders Robbie Cuthbert and Matty Crust, midfielder Max Craggs and Kenzie Harker out on the left wing.

They were all outstanding, backed up brilliantly by the senior regular players in our team.  The victory rounded off a very good week for us, so roll on next Wednesday when we take on Penrith at home.

There was an explosive start to the game after only three minutes when winger Kenzie Harker put Guisborough 1-0 ahead with an absolute ‘worldie’ of a goal.

From 25 yards out on the left wing he hit an unbelievable shot which sailed over the head of Easington ‘keeper Tom Orton before nestling nicely in the far right hand corner of the net.  A memorable goal that would have had ‘Match of the Day’ presenters eulogising about!

The Priorymen doubled their lead on 32 minutes when captain Marvel-ous Cal Martin powered his way to the edge of the Easington penalty area after a clever one-two with the impressive and ever-energetic Brad Mills before unleashing a fierce shot that went straight as a die like an Exocet missile into the back of the net for 2-0.

Two minutes before that the pillar of ever-consistent Guisborough’s defence, James Frazer, saved his side with an important block on an Easington shot.

The seven minutes after Martin’s blockbuster goal stand-in Guisborough goalie Jaan Yacub preserves his side’s two-goal lead with a tremendous.

Guisborough continued to dominate the rest of the half but couldn’t add further to their lead.

In the second half Easington tried to counter but Yacub produced two good saves, the second one an excellent one-handed stop from a dangerous Easington effort.

But on 67 minutes Guisborough scored a lovely third goal to make the game safe.  The impressive debutant Max Craggs, oozing class and composure throughout, whipped over a perfect free kick into the Easington penalty area and young Cuthbert rose majestically to head home another superb Guisborough goal for 3-0 and ‘game, set and match.’

Every single Guisborough player played an important individual part in this completely convincing victory.  A special mention is due to Guisborough’s only recognised striker on the field – big Jason Blackburn – who played really well despite a continuing niggly injury and he lasted all but the last nine minutes on the field. Apart from the players, rich praise is also due to Guisborough’s managerial duo of Steve Bell and Paul, who masterminded a brilliant victory despite having to set the team up with several senior regulars missing.
