Guisborough Town 2-5 Marske United (Mo Molam Memorial Cup Final)
|Mo Mowlam Memorial Cup
Guisborough Town reached the final of the four-way Mo Mowlam Football Tournament on Sunday for the second year running since its inception and overall acquitted themselves pretty well despite a decisive defeat by neighbouring Marske.
The Priorymen reached the final by beating Redcar Athletic 1-0 in the first semi-final on Saturday while Marske narrowly overcame Redcar car by the same one-goal margin in the other semi played on Saturday.
Against Marske, Guisborough found it hard to get going and find their natural rhythm and found themselves 3-0 down by half-time, with goals from Boyes (10 mins and 31 mins) and Hopson (36 mins). It had been a dominant first half by the Seasiders and Guisborough were indebted to young keeper Will Cowey for a string of superb saves.
However, Guisborough came out for the second half more positive and reduced the arears to 3-1 just a minute after the break when a Trialist got the final touch to a shot by Jason Blackburn. But just three minutes later Marske regained their three-goal lead when Kennedy scored following a corner for 4-1.
The Priorymen bounced back in the 59th minute when midfielder Shabs Mohammed drilled a free kick into the Marske box and a Guisborough Trialist took on two defenders before beating former Guisborough goalkeeper Ryan Catterick for 4-2.
It was full credit to the Priorymen for making a game of it but Marske sealed a 5-2 victory in the 79th minute when Guilfoyle beat Cowey in the Guisborough goal to ensure Marske retained the Mo Mowlam Memorial Trophy for the second year running.
