Guisborough more than match Redcar Athletic – but undone by scrappy goal.

Guisborough Town lost by a solitary second half goal in their penultimate friendly of the season at Redcar Athletic on Tuesday night.

In a highly competitive game, the Priorymen more than matched their higher league local derby rivals but succumbed to the only goal of the game in the 61st minute.

Two former Guisborough Town players were involved in the goal as Louie Johnson swung over a cross from the left and the loose ball fell fortuitously to Andrei Ardelean who poked the ball home from a few yards out.

That was all that separated the sides in a tough match that swung from end to end from start to finish.

The closest Guisborough came to scoring was from three second half efforts by Cunningham, Robinson and Ferguson but they didn’t trouble the Redcar ‘keeper overly much.

Guisborough’s star men on the night were centre backs James Frazer and Ben Errington, who were outstanding at the back.

The Priorymen have no game this coming weekend and complete their pre-season programme a week on Saturday, 1 August at Whitby Town in the annual Micky Skinner Memorial match (KO 3pm).
