Tolu thunderbolt clinches second win in three days for Priorymen

A spectacular strike from an acute angle by Toluwani Osiyemi earned Guisborough Town their second win inside three days at the Kevin Edward KGV Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.

The three points lifted the Priorymen up to tenth place in the table and while Guisborough Manager Nathan Haslam didn’t feel his side were at their best. he was nevertheless “delighted” with the win.

After the game he admitted: “Not a perfect performance particularly in the first half but we’ve come back out in the second and been the dominant force, kept a clean sheet and overall I’ve got to be happy with us picking up all three points while not being at our best.”

Nathan paid tribute to the substitutes and their patience in waiting for their opportunity. “Their attitude has been fantastic,” added Nathan.

“But it still hasn’t properly clicked for us moving forward but we do look dangerous and we’re scoring goals from open play. Both Connor Simpson and Tolu have been playing their part in that respect in recent games,” added Nathan

Interviewed after the game, Tolu quipped: “In some recent games, our fans have seen some of my shots going almost all the way to Roseberry Topping!

“But my goal today came from what I like to do – to drift into those wide areas and to let fly and score.”

Asked about being the firm favourite of the KGV faithful, Tolu said he would always value and appreciate the fans, who pay their hard-earned money to come and support the players. “It’s something I will always hold dear to my heart,” he said.

The in-form Tolu has now scored four in his last five matches and he tongue in cheek conceded that his deflected ‘goal’ against Ossett United would have to be looked at by the ‘dubious goals panel.’

Guisborough’s first goal on Saturday came in the 7th minute came when Alex Payne crowned an excellent game to shoot from distance and see his shot from outside the area flicked on into the net by Connor Simpson.

There were also excellent performances in the Guisborough side by the likes of Ben Errington. Joe Fergison and the non-stop Alfie Doherty. But the Man of the Match award went deservedly to Ryan Catterick who pulled off several outstanding saves.

The bumper Bank Holiday crowd at the KGV on Monday was a fan-tastic 512.

Guisborough’s next game is at Grimsby Borough next Saturday, 5 September (KO 3pm).
