Match Report
Guisborough Town completed what has been a pretty good season overall with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Northallerton Town on Wednesday night.
The win and three points mean the Priorymen will clinch a Top Six place – providing Teesside rivals Boro Rangers don’t cause an upset and win at Heaton Stannington in their final game on Thursday night.
Sadly, Guisborough miss out on a play-off place by a tiny two-point margin – which is disappointing in one sense but a good achievement in another given where they were in the table at the turn of the year. Last night against North Yorkshire rivals Northallerton Town the Priorymen clinched a well-deserved win with goals from Nick Hood, Jason Blackburn and Matty Tymon.
Hood’s goal came after just six minutes’ play from a Joe Pickett corner which Hood headed home brilliantly for 1-0 to the Priorymen. That was the only score of an otherwise fairly even first half but just a minute into the second half Guisborough doubled their lead when Matty Tymon put Jason Blackburn through on goal and the big striker scored with a shot into the far corner.
The Priorymen confirmed their superiority in the 54th with a great three-man move sparked off by Joe Smith who capped a fine game by working the ball out onto the right to Pickett who put over a great cross to Tymon who scored with a deft header into the bottom right hand corner for 3-0 and that’s how it ended.
This was a really strong finish to the season getting a decisive 3-0 win in a game which, to be honest, didn’t really mean a lot to us – and that is a huge credit to our lads. I’d like to thank each and every one of them for their efforts throughout what has been a long and extremely challenging season.
Since mid-December we have played 25 games in all competitions and have only lost three of them which is a major achievement. We just need to tidy up our first half to the season and then I’m sure we’ll be challenging for honours next season.
Recruitment for next season has already started and if we can keep the core of what we currently have and add a few more players then I hope we can push on further next season.
