Match Report

Guisborough Ladies claimed a derby day victory over Redcar Athletic.

Redcar came into the game in good form and from the off started on the front foot, creating a chance and getting an early corner. But it wasn’t long until Guisborough started to grow into the game and began playing some good football. After a few questionable off side calls, Emma Walton played a great through ball that found the run of Mac who went one on one with the goal keeper to slot it into the net. 1-0 Guisborough. The home team kept the pressure on and created 3 or 4 more great chances that they didn’t put away.

The second half started a bit scrappy with both teams giving the ball away too easily. However, it was Guisborough who struck again with a well worked move ending in a top corner finish by Scarlett Hames. 2-0 Guisborough. Guisborough had a few more half chances but it was Redcar who scored next after a Guisborough error gifting an easy finish for the Redcar striker. Game on… Redcar, pushing for the equaliser, lost the ball and a great through ball to Scarlett left her one on one with the keeper and she finished with aplomb. 3-1 Guisborough. In the last few minutes, Guisborough got sloppy and allowed a long ball find the Redcar forward who’s first shot was saved but then tapped in on the rebound. Guisborough held out the last minute to get the result they deserved after playing some great football.
