Match Report

Guisborough Town played out a dour 0-0 draw against Cumbrians Carlisle City at the Kevin Edward KGV Stadium on Saturday.

But by avoiding defeat the Priorymen stretched their current impressive unbeaten run to six games. Guisborough Town Manager Steve Connolly admitted the match was no classic and overall it proved a frustrating afternoon.

We’re frustrated with the result even though we’ve now gone six matches unbeaten. Overall, we’ve controlled the game bit we didn’t create enough chances or produce enough quality in the final third.

But we had so many players out either through injury or not being available which certainly hampered us. But our back line players were commendable today – in particular Joe Pickett and Dylan McAvoy who out of necessity I had to play out position – so well done to them and our defensive line as a whole.

There were few highlights throughout the game.  However, in the very first minute Guisborough striker Jason Blackburn nearly got on the end of a long ball over the top but the Carlisle ‘keeper just got there first in the nick of time.

In the 12th minute great work by Guisborough winger Ben Jackson won the ball and ran half the length of the pitch to cross for Blackburn to head just wide. Carlisle won a free kick on 28 minutes and sent in a low effort which Guisborough ‘keeper Robert Dean got down well to safely clutch the ball.

JOE PICKETT DEFENDS WELL

Carlisle threatened briefly 10 minutes before half-time but Joe Pickett defended well to snuff out the danger and it stayed 0-0 to half-time. In the second half, the nearest either team came to scoring came in the 69th when Carlisle almost deflected a Guisborough shot into their own goal.

From the resulting corner Guisborough Man of the Match James Frazer climbed high to head towards the far corner of the Carlisle net but his goal-bound effort was blocked on the goal-line and that ensured it remained goalless to full-time.

Guisborough dropped one place in the league table to seventh with North Shields winning 2-0 at Boro Rangers.

Meanwhile, Guisborough face a tough away trip next midweek on Wednesday, 4 December at improving Crook Town (KO 7.30pm).
