Nathan Haslam ‘very happy’ with pre-season preps
Guisborough Town got their pre-season friendly programme underway on Tuesday night, 30 June with a comfortable victory in a rearranged fixture against Town’s own Reserve side at Redcar College.
After the game, Guisborough boss Nathan Haslam said the match provided a very useful workout not just for the Senior side but for the Reserves as well and he had some warm praise for them when he commented: “Our Reserves gave us a good test, and they looked really fit which was nice to see.
“Focussing on us, it was a good workout all round and we used everybody that was available on the night. For our first game, there were some very positive elements to emerge for us. At the same time there were a few things I could see where we need to be better at – but that’s only to be expected at this early stage of pre-season.
“So we’ve now got five more games to improve further and work on several things moving forward, which will take us into the game at Thornaby this coming Saturday, 5 July. We are certainly looking forward to stepping up a gear for that match,” added Nathan.
‘HAPPY WITH RECRUITMENT’
“But even at this early stage, I’m pleased with how things are progressing and I’m also happy with the recruitment so far in terms of who we’ve brought in with the likes of my first signing Josh Macdonald and subsequently Elliott Beddow – two very experienced, proven players.
“Also, to re-sign former KGV favourite Joe ‘Fergie’ Ferguson plus Ben Errington along with Josh and Elliott are big statements for us. All these four players have been highly sought after by other clubs so it’s great that they’ve committed themselves to Guisborough Town.
“We’ve lost one or two of last season’s squad but that happens and is expected at every club. But we’ve managed to keep the core of what is already a strong set of players.
“Training has been going particularly well with some great turnouts although we’re dealing with the usual set of challenges with players missing through holidays and the like.
“What is also very pleasing is that the players are already buying into what myself and my coaching team are trying to achieve and the lads are even doing extra work which is good and their fitness levels are very high this early into pre-season.
“At this moment in time we are starting to implement some of our game strategy and tactical plans, which over the next few games we’ll get more into.
“So all in all, very pleased indeed overall with everything and speaking from the management side there’s obviously myself, Gary Wood and Gary Forster working purposefully together along with our new fitness coach Andy Matthews, who has been doing a lot of the work for us so far in relation to fitness,” added Nathan.
From the Guisborough Town loyal supporters perspective, they will be delighted by the steady stream of announcements on Guisborough’s Town’s X Site of quality new players recruited plus existing players who have retained – most of them big favourites among the KGV faithful, especially legendary goalkeeper Robert ‘Deano’ Dean to name just one.
