Derby Day win for the Ladies!
Guisborough Ladies travelled the short distance to Redcar Athletic on Sunday. With an injury hit squad and knowing how hard a game it is against Redcar, the Ladies knew they would have to be at their best to return to winning ways.
However, it was Redcar who started the better and they struck first after a mistake in the Guisborough defence gave the Redcar attacker a perfect chance and she rolled it into the net.
That seemed to wake Guisborough up and they started moving the ball quicker and created some great chances to score. But, the Redcar keeper made some excellent saves until finally a cross from Paige Davis was helped on by Ebony McDermottroe (sponsored by Cleveland Plastering Services) to the on rushing Anna Trainor (sponsored by Rosemount Construction) to finish first time into the net.
Half Time: Redcar Athletic Ladies 1-1 Guisborough Town Ladies
The second half started scrappy from both teams, but once it settled down, Guisborough looked the more dangerous and created some good chances. But yet again, the Redcar keeper had other ideas, pulling off some great saves with the defence helping her out too.
Then, a direct through ball from Rachel Dimmick (sponsored by Fugly Bakes) released the pacey Scarlett Hames (sponsored by Croft Rigging & Lifting ltd) who took the ball in her stride and calmly put it away.
With the away team pushing for an equaliser, a Davis through ball found McDermottroe to go one on one and put the ball beyond the keeper and into the net to make it 3-1.
The hosts pulled one back with only a few minutes left with a well struck freekick that flew into the Guisborough net.
Redcar piled on the pressure for the last two minutes but Guisborough stood firm and held out for a deserved win.
