Guisborough Town honour top players (and valued volunteers) of 2024/25 season

Guisborough Town once again celebrated the end of a long and gruelling season for both the Men’s First Team and the Reserves by giving deserved praise and rich recognition to those players who made outstanding contributions throughout the season.

And being the ‘family orientated’ club that Guisborough Town has always been, the hard work of the club’s dedicated volunteers was also gratefully recognised.

In the Men’s First Team, awards went to outstanding midfielder Joey Smith (Players’ Player of Year), goalkeeping legend Robert Dean (Managers’ Player) and midfield dynamo Joe Pickett (Supporters’ Player).

All three deserved their awards for their brilliant contributions towards helping Guisborough finish a gruelling season just outside the Northern League Division One top ten.

The huge popularity of midfielder/winger Joe Pickett with the club’s supporters was underlined by the fact that a serious injury at Redcar Athletic in mid-January kept him out for most of the rest of the season – a factor many felt probably cost Guisborough a place in the play-offs, such was the rich vein of form Joe was in when he suffered his serious injury.

It came as no surprise that Guisborough’s joint caretaker managers Cal Martin and Tommy Marron plumped for goalkeeper Robert ‘Deano’ Dean as their Player of the Year, such was the fantastic form he was in throughout the campaign.

And it was no surprise that the First Team players themselves picked classy midfielder Joey Smith as their ‘main man.’

In the Guisborough Town Reserves, Archie Medcalf capped a fine season by carrying off an amazing hat-trick of awards – the Players’ Player, Manager’s Player and Supporters’ Player of the Year. Meanwhile, Matthew Blair won the Coaches’ Player award.

The much-celebrated Priory Salver for Club Volunteer of the Season went to Julie Bennett, a highly-valued member of the Club’s incredibly hard-working Ladies Section.

Julie volunteers weekly to support hospitality on match days for officials, away teams and sponsors. She also regularly makes an important regular contribution to room cleaning and decorating. “We couldn’t do without her” was the feeling of everyone at the club.
