Plenty Happening Down at the KGV Stadium – Both on & off the Pitch

A tremendous amount of superb improvement work was carried out at Guisborough Town’s Kevin Edward KGV Stadium last week as part of the special Club Volunteers Week.

Volunteers turned up in healthy numbers throughout the week to carry out a variety of important tasks including painting key areas of the ground, especially the main stand, the outside kitchen area and many of the walls around the stadium were painted in durable black.

The patio decking outside the Priory Suite was thoroughly cleaned and then painted in non-slip grey floor covering.  The picnic benches have also been cleaned renovated and the paving in front of the decking area has been weeded and cleaned.  Also, the stanchions in front of the decking area have been painted white.

Meanwhile, out on the KGV pitch a lot of work has gone on cutting and fertilizing certain patches and getting the playing surface looking lush and green ahead of the new season.

Guisborough Town Director Mike Thompson, who  coordinated the work plan as well as pitching in with a lot of the work, said at the end of the week that it was important that as the title-winning Men’s team had “gone to the next level” with promotion at the end of last season, that it was imperative the KGV facilities were brought up to the best possible standards too – and the Volunteers Week initiative was just the start!

Mike also commented that he was delighted to see such a positive response last week from the club’s volunteer supporters, who had achieved so much during the week.

And Club Steward Andy Thomas, who himself was busy throughout the week, expressed the Club’s sincere thanks to everyone who had turned up to help. Although many of those who turned up put in tremendously hard-working shifts throughout the week, one of them, Paul Couse, was named ‘Volunteer of the Week: for the hard graft he put in, especially cutting up disused goalposts in the early part of the week with Chris Anniss, which was a massive task in itself.

Pictured below is a wide variety of the tasks carried out by the volunteers as well as some well-earned refreshment breaks facilitated by some of the lady volunteers, in particular Julie Bennett who brought in some home baked and quiches as well as tasty sandwiches.

Meanwhile, Guisborough Town have completed a hat-trick of new signings ahead of the new season.
