Town’s key men get their just desserts at Northern League annual dinner
Guisborough Town capped off a remarkable season at the Northern League’s showpiece annual awards dinner as manager Nathan Haslam and centre half James Frazer both scooped the top awards in the Northern League’s First Division season.

Nathan Haslam was justly awarded the Northern League Manager of the Season. His calm demeanour, tactical nous and ability to blend existing squad members with new players took Guisborough to the dizzy heights of League champions.
After a season where he was the Priorymen’s defensive rock and also contributed crucial goals, ‘Fraze’ as he is affectionately known was awarded Northern League Player of the Season, a deserved accolade for a lynchpin in Guisborough’s defence.

Also shortlisted for the award was goalkeeper Ryan Catterick, who was only beaten 31 times across the whole campaign.
Frazer and Catterick were part of the league’s strongest defence, around which Town’s title winning season was built.
There was also recognition for Guisborough’s attacking prowess, with central midfielder Alfie Doherty shortlisted for the league’s Young Player of the Year award and forward Kurtis Howes falling just one goal short of being the league’s top goalscorer, finishing on 22 league goals.
Full credit was given to manager Nathan Haslam, who achieved the extraordinary feat of transforming Guisborough from an average mid-table side to Northern League champions for the first time in the club’s history.

In a praiseworthy speech, the Northern League wished Guisborough well on their journey to the Northern Premier League East Division, whilst also expressing that they were sad to see Guisborough leave as a friendly, welcoming club with great facilities.
This was the icing on the cake for a record breaking Guisborough side who can now look forward with excitement to their debut season in the Northern Premier League.
Meanwhile, although the main senior season has now finally finished, there’s still plenty going on around the Kevin Edward KGV Stadium and grounds.
A week-long ‘volunteers’ work will start in earnest from Monday, 15 June (9am – 1pm approx. daily) when major efforts will be made to give the stadium a facelift for the start of the new season in the Northern Premier League. Main duties will include cleaning, painting, some pitch perimeter tidying up – among other things.
No particular skills are needed (although some would be welcome!) – just a willingness to put time and efforts in for the good of the club.
Meanwhile, the annual ‘Sausage Fest’ is back at the Kevin Edward KGV next Saturday, 6 June. Among the attractions and activities is live music, barbecue food, bouncy castle and other kids’ attractions. Admission is free!
